Workshops and SeminarsThe C.G. Jung Foundation presents Psyche and World: Relationships Between the Individual “The mischief … lies neither with the collective psyche nor with the individual psyche, but in allowing one to exclude the other.” — C.G. Jung CW, Vol.7:482 A daylong seminar led by Harry W. Fogarty, Ph.D. Saturday, February 10, 2007 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Individuation remains an incomplete process, Jung warns, unless we can reconcile our psychic development with developments in the external world. Our daily confrontation with larger world events and challenges will remain superficial, however, unless we actively engage with our more immediate personal collectives, that is with our own social networks, workplace environments, communities and institutions. While we are citizens of the world, we live our daily lives, work, and have relationships locally. We will examine our personal lives and local engagements and activities against the backdrop of universal issues and events, such as war, poverty, and environmental degradation. How do these global concerns impact our daily lives? How do our personal perceptions and domestic activities and concerns reflect and illuminate global events? C.G. Jung’s understanding of the relationship between the individual and the collective will guide us in this workshop as we meditate upon and mediate between our interior selves and the various levels of collective engagement in the external world. Harry W. Fogarty, Ph.D., is a Jungian analyst in private practice in Manhattan and a lecturer in Psychiatry and Religion at Union Theological Seminary.
